The Bhagavat Gita is revered not only by Hindus but by many people all over the world. It contains teachings by Lord Sri Krishna who is the supreme God to his friend and disciple Arjuna, just before kurukshetra war began. Pandava Prince Arjuna is preoccupied by a moral and emotional dilemma and despair about the violence and death the war will cause in the battle against his kin.[Wondering if he should renounce the war, he seeks Krishna's counsel, whose answers and discourse constitute the Bhagavad Gita. Krishna counsels Arjuna to "fulfil his Kshatriya (warrior) duty to uphold the Dharma" through Karma "selfless action" and that he must perform his duty (called dharma) and fight the war. In the end he listens to Krishna as his doubts are clarified.
It is considered to be the manual based on which a human should follow his life according to Sanatana Dharma. Bhagavat Gita contains 700 Shlokas in 18 Chapters.
