Vishnu Sahasranamam, is a Sanskrit hymn which contains a list of 1,000 names of Lord Vishnu, The Vishnu Sahasranamam is found in the 135th chapter of Anushāsanaparva (verses 14 to 120) in Mahabharata,. This sthotra was given to Yudhishthira by Bhishma who was on his death bed (of arrows) in the battlefield of Kurukshetra,
He tells Yudhishtira (also called as dharma Putra) the 1000 names of Lord Vishnu ( Lord Krishna during his time) in the form of Vishnu Sahasranamam and says mankind will be free from all sorrows by daily chanting the Vishnu Sahasranamam.
